FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

What is the idea all about?
Well, the idea is simple – to try to sell ‘the most important words on the web’ and to fund an independent film project, based on my award winning screenplay ‘ENTER’.

Who are you?
My name is Nikola Raykov, I am 27 years old and I live in the city of Stara Zagora in Bulgaria. I have tried doing different things with my life, but somehow always felt attracted to art in one form or another. I have written sci-fi, fantasy and drama stories (some of them awarded and published), I have a film screenplay (also awarded) and I have always been fascinated with cinema. I have done directing and editing for commercials and documentaries on a low scale and results were pretty decent. About a year ago I decided I had enough and I quit my blue-collar administrative job. Instead I was to start a web design company with my future wife (we were only engaged at that point). So now, besides everything else, I am a web designer.

Why should I buy a word?
Because you will have a link to your site posted on ‘1000 words for sale’ that could potentially bring to you millions of people. At a price of 10$/year this might turn out to be the cheapest and most effective advertising you have ever done.

How come you are selling ‘words’?
Well, since I have been running a web design company for a year I was able to figure out that advertising on the web, once you have your website build is as important (if not more) as building the website itself. And then it hit me. The most important advertising words are the ones that the most people search for.

How did you compile the list?
It was not as easy as it might look. Actually it took me almost two weeks to cross-reference different sources about searching terms and then I had to remove some of them, such as company names or trademarks and leave only the everyday words used.

Can I resell words?
Yes. If you have certain word(s) pointing to your site(s) you are allowed to resell them to a third person keeping 50% of the new sold amount, as your profit.

What is the film script about?
When a desperate young man awakens trapped in a bizarre labyrinth, with amnesia, he sets out to solve the puzzle and find a way out, but has to play by the illogical rules of this nightmarish world and its quirky inhabitants.

Why don’t you find producers and do it like everybody else?
Finding producers for a first feature film might not be as easy as you think. I had the screenplay reviewed by some people in the industry and the common opinion was that this script is very interesting/strange/bizarre (it was even compared to Lynch and Fellini!) and it will be almost impossible to find a producer for this type of film, since people like to invest their money in already proven concepts (and we get to watch the same films over and over).

Isn’t $100,000 too little for producing a film?
No, it is not. The script was written with low budget in mind. I have experience working with no budget and low budgets. $100,000 is actually a decent amount for filming in Bulgaria and it’s probably equal to about $400,000 if you were filming in the USA for example. And there is always a chance that this website will make more than $100,000.

How did you make those pretty backgrounds?
For the most backgrounds I used fractal generating software and then I did some heavy digital editing to get the effect I wanted. Some of the backgrounds are created from scratch.

What is this cool thing that rotates the words?
It is called WP-Cumulus and it was developed by Roy Tanck and released as open source. Some changes had to be made to repurpose it for ‘1000 words’, but the core is still WP-Cumulus. Therefore I hereby promise that if this website is successful I will send Roy a check, along with my thanks.

What technologies have been used to create ‘1000 words for sale’?
A lot. PHP, HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, Flash. All pages were successfully checked as XHTML 1.0 Transitional and all CSS validate as CSS level 2.1.
